Inspired by my father, a stair builder, I started working with wood at a young age. Once I became old enough to use the “big tools”, I began building furniture for parents and friends, and eventually turned it into a custom furniture business. Wanting to improve my hand tool skills, I took a Windsor chair class in New Hampshire, taught by a renowned master chair maker. I caught the bug and as they say “the rest is history”. Building chairs has helped my furniture making achieve a new level, evident in the quality of my work. My chairs come with a lifetime guarantee; I am confident that they will stand up over time, just as their antique predecessors did.

A craft that began in the east has made its way to the Pacific Northwest, and Ben J. Dykstra is honored to share it with those here who appreciate its value as a timeless classic.

With the experience of building high quality furniture I now have branched out into other aspects of woodworking such as kitchen cabinetry and custom built in furniture. Whether it is an office suite or a custom built kitchen, I would love to have the opportunity to work on your project. I see kitchens as an opportunity to be creative and not just stacking boxes together. Ben J Dykstra, Furnituremaker can help you design cabinetry that is truly unique.
